The Pit Mountain Karst lies at the height of the Pit Mountain, whose name is related to the many pits that are very dense and strange-looking formed by the process of karst, or the dissolution of limestone rocks in water, of which this mountain was built.
Karst pits have the form of funnels with a diameter of several meters to several tens of meters. They are closed, without surface flow, while at their end there are absorption holes, through which rainwater penetrates deep into the limestone massif. This water comes out in the form of large springs around this mountain.
Here we find many types of herbaceous and woody plants as well as different types of animals: ground beetles, reptiles, mountain partridges, rabbits, foxes, wolves, etc.
This natural monument can be visited by following the Tirana – Dajt – Bize highway for around 2 hours.
